Location: London – Dalston Junction

Hours: 2 days per week plus attendance at WOMAD Festival 24–29 July 2024

Duration: 8–10 weeks. Internship to start early June (negotiable) and end in the first week of August. Starting date: 5th June 2024

Job Purpose

This internship focuses on developing an exhibition for the WOMAD festival that highlights Action Village India’s work, and supports the team during the weekend of the festival.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • WOMAD Exhibition Support
    • Attend planning meetings for the exhibition.
    • Research the theme of the exhibition.
    • Support the preparation, design, creation and installation of the exhibition.
  • Event Management
    • Support event management duties as required.
    • Work with AVI staff, trustees and volunteers at WOMAD Festival 24–29 July 2024.
  • Office Support
    • Assist with day‑to‑day office work, including communications with enquirers and supporters and the online gift shop.
    • Support the production and printing of leaflets, appeals and fundraising materials.
    • Help with distribution of mailings, appeals, newsletters and membership materials.
    • Create content for various social media platforms.

Person Specification

  • Excellent communication skills face to face, on the phone and by email.
  • Ability to work independently, using own initiative to develop systems and deal with practical situations.
  • IT skills to support email, database, social media and spreadsheets; graphic design skills for newsletters (desirable).
  • Ability to stay focused and efficient amid changing priorities, delivering work on time.
  • Commitment to AVI’s values and ethos.

Terms of Internship

Voluntary position. AVI covers travel expenses within London and lunch costs for days worked in the office (up to £10 a day). All expenses must be itemised with receipts. Cost of WOMAD ticket and travel will be covered. Training and supervision will be provided during the internship period.

Accessibility

Our office is on the second floor with a narrow staircase and no lift, which may not be suitable for individuals with additional accessibility needs. We welcome inquiries regarding work‑from‑home arrangements if required.
