Reporting directly to the Warehouse Manager, as a Returns Operative you will be responsible for managing the process of returned goods in the warehouse. You will play a crucial part in ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining efficient stock control by handling and processing returns items efficiently. As a Returns Operative you will ensure returned items are inspected, documented and restocked or disposed of according to company policies.
Key Responsibilities
This role will include taking accountability for:
Receiving Returns
- Accepting and signing for returned goods
- Verifying returned items against return authorisation paperwork
- Inspecting items for damage or discrepancies
- Assisting with general physical activities relating to the unloading, manual handling and moving of returns
Processing Returns
- Categorising returned items based on their conditions (e.g. resale, refurbishment, disposal)
- Logging and updating returns information in the warehouse management system (WMS)
- Coordinating with customer service to resolve any issues related to returns
- Working to strict deadlines to ensure the timely processing of returns within 3 days of receipt
Quality Control
- Conducting thorough inspections of returned goods to determine their condition and re-saleability
- Identifying and documenting any defects or damages
- Ensuring that returned items meet company quality standards before restocking.
Stock management
- Restocking resalable items in the appropriate locations
- Ensuring that non-resalable items are process according to company policies
- Assisting in periodic stock counts and audits.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all returned items using the computer systems provided
- Generating reports on return trends and issues for management to review
- Filing and storing return documentation as required
Health and Safety
- Adhering to health and safety regulations and guidelines
- Keeping the returns are clean, tidy and organised
- Using warehouse equipment and machinery safely
Key Skills
- Valid Reach Truck licence licence (essential).
- Valid Counterbalance or Pivot Steer FLT licence (desirable).
- Literacy and numeracy skills
- Keen eye for detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good physical fitness and the ability to lift and move items
- Basic computer skills for managing stock systems
- Previous experience in a warehouse or returns processing environment
- Understanding of quality control processes and standards
