As a Goods In Warehouse Operative, you will be primarily responsible for the safe and efficient receipt of deliveries into the warehouse. This includes the unloading, inspection, processing, and accurate storage of inbound goods. Your attention to detail and use of FLT equipment (Counterbalance and ideally Reach Truck) will help maintain high standards of accuracy and service, contributing directly to our overall warehouse performance and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Inbound Goods & Returns

  • Safely unload deliveries using appropriate MHE (Counterbalance and Reach Truck).
  • Check incoming deliveries for quantity, quality, and conformity against purchase orders.
  • Log any discrepancies, damage, or shortfalls and report to relevant personnel.
  • Ensure timely and accurate stock intake, including system updates via WMS or RF scanners.
  • Repack, band, and wrap goods as needed to maintain stock integrity.

Storage & Inventory Management

  • Store goods in designated warehouse areas efficiently and in line with layout plans.
  • Ensure items are stored in a manner that prevents damage and allows easy access.
  • Support regular cycle counts and assist with stock audits.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy and cleanliness within the goods-in zone.

Equipment Operation

  • Operate FLT machinery (Counterbalance essential; Reach Truck desirable) in line with training and safety standards.
  • Perform pre-use safety checks on all assigned equipment.
  • Maintain MHE logs and report any issues promptly.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and promptly, including delivery notes and discrepancy forms.
  • Use handheld devices and WMS to update stock records and inbound tracking.
  • Communicate with colleagues and managers regarding any issues affecting inbound flow.

Health, Safety & Quality

  • Adhere to all site Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, hazard-free work area by disposing of packaging waste and flattening boxes.
  • Immediately report any potential hazards or faulty equipment.
  • Ensure stock is handled and stored in line with quality standards to prevent damage.

Team Collaboration & Performance

  • Work closely with the wider warehouse team to support order fulfilment when required.
  • Contribute to meeting departmental KPIs including OTIF and stock accuracy targets.
  • Suggest improvements to processes or layout to increase efficiency or reduce risks.

Requirements

  • Valid Counterbalance FLT licence (essential).
  • Valid Reach Truck licence (desirable).
  • Previous experience in a warehouse environment, especially goods-in functions.
  • Competent in using WMS systems and handheld scanners.
  • Ability to lift, move, and handle stock safely and efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail.
