We’re looking for a Technical Author to manage our customer-facing product documentation.

OpenWorks develops world leading technology. As Technical Author, you\’ll be responsible for working with subject matter experts across the company to translate technical intent, product features and capabilities into clear English which is easily understood by our customers and end-users.

This role involves a significant amount of time working with our physical products and so is primarily an on-site role. OpenWorks has a culture of flexible working (both in time and location) dependant on project requirements.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Write and update internal technical documents (e.g. build procedures, training material)
  • Create annotated images (from photos or CAD drawings)
  • Create illustrative diagrams
  • Take the lead on gathering information from the engineering design team to understand the intended build process, critical steps and inspection points in order to create clear instructions for the Production team.
  • Interpret and analyse technical documents and drawings to extract essential data for documentation
  • Leading technical reviews and validation of technical documents

What we’re looking for:

  • Excellent English grammar and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate technical information
  • Ability to write clear and succinct instructions in English
  • Capability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Detailed knowledge of how to create technical documents in MS Word
  • Ability to create graphics to compliment the documentation
  • Curious and creative

Desirable attributes:

  • Experience working in the defence and security sector
  • A degree in Engineering, English, Writing or other relevant subject
  • Experience in revision control of documents
