The Bureau of Governance & Policy Support (BGPS) researches and analyzes youth policies and guidance to support the IYF’s strategic interventions. As a Volunteer Deputy Director you will represent, promote, and uphold the mission of “Empowering youth for a better world” across IYF programs and opportunities worldwide.

What will you be doing?

The International Youth Federation is an international non‑profit youth network, governed by its statutes and the Swiss Civil Code. BGPS is responsible for researching and analyzing relevant youth policies and providing technical advice, advocacy and representation at multi‑stakeholder forums.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic management of the Bureau
  • Support BGPS Director in leading policy advocacy, ensuring optimal resource use, a culture of results, and high performance standards
  • Co‑lead annual work planning and strategic target setting; advise on BGPS priorities and help the team develop output‑based plans and management plans
  • Act as Director of the Bureau in the Director’s absence, undertaking delegated decisions and representation responsibilities
  • Facilitate coordination between BGPS and BPS teams to deploy technical and advisory capacity on policy issues efficiently
  • Create an environment of team spirit and high motivation; provide coaching and mentoring to BGPS staff
  • Co‑supervise Bureau staff and ensure performance assessments follow IYF procedures
  • Empower the Global Policy Working Group (GPWG): ensure joined‑up work, integrated approaches, staff release, and a culture of cooperation across GPWG and IYF
  • Develop guidelines and principles for a collaborative approach to enhance IYF’s policy capacity, ensuring speed of support and integrated resources
  • Oversee business process design, work plans, workflows and terms of reference for the BGPS team to leverage GPWG capacities
  • Ensure proper functioning of BGPS team in engaging key partners
  • Identify, develop and sustain partnerships with think‑tanks, academia, INGOs, NGOs and other policy partners to address crisis‑ and fragility‑related issues
  • Liaise and collaborate closely with partners on policy advocacy issues
  • Forge partnerships with bilateral, multilateral and emerging donors and IFI partners on policy advocacy issues
