Director of the Department of Safety and Security ensuring countries are resilient in their security plans and operational preparedness for potential crises. To voluntarily represent, positively promote, and uphold the mission of “Empowering youth for a better world” in various programs and opportunities throughout the IYF interventions across member countries.

What are we looking for?

Experience in disarmament affairs, conflict resolution, crime or terrorism prevention, security, risk or disaster or emergency management and preparedness in the public or private sector areas responsible for responding to emergency situations that directly impact security is required.

What will you be doing?

The International Youth Federation is an international non‑profit youth organisation network governed by the present Statutes and the Swiss Civil Code. It is neutral politically and non‑denominational, aiming to empower youth worldwide. The IYF Department of Safety and Security (IYFDSS) is a specialised division dedicated to ensuring the safety, security, and well‑being of staff members and stakeholders involved in IYF programmes and initiatives worldwide. The primary objective of the IYFDSS is to create a secure and protected environment for young people to thrive, learn, and contribute to their communities. It operates with the understanding that safety and security are essential for the successful implementation of youth‑focused projects and activities. Reporting to the Secretary‑General through the BOM Director, the Director of Department of Safety and Security ensures countries are resilient in their security plans and operational preparedness for potential crises. It assists BOM in identifying and prioritising those countries at increased risk of instability so that security support to our operations ensures they are conducted in conditions of acceptable risk.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an adviser to the IYF Bureau of Management on all security risk management matters, security policy and procedures.
  • Builds consensus to ensure alignment and support for security operations and initiatives to best enable IYF activities.
  • Ensures forecasting of the evolving security environment and the IYF’s security and operational responses.
  • Uses analytical techniques and collaborative team research, supports planning and ensures awareness of the current trends to enhance or adjust security programmes.
  • Monitors and contributes to activities that relate to the implementation and evaluation of preparedness and compliance; drives results that help support operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Enhances communication and trust through active collaboration, consultation and exchanges with other stakeholders for information sharing, coordination of responses, provision of security briefings, and taking into account operational activities and risks.
  • Strengthens awareness and capacity of personnel by supporting the development, updates and delivery of contextually relevant security training and advice.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of 2-3 experts at HQ.
