By valorising waste, creating new business markets, kick‑starting innovation, and delivering carbon reduction, they ultimately save business costs through industrial symbiosis – keeping resources in use for longer. This Circular Economy approach reduces business carbon emissions up to 80% (Scope 3 upstream and downstream of the value chain) to help them meet their sustainability and ESG commitments. Job Introduction: Do you want to be part of the low‑carbon green economy? There is an exciting opportunity to join the team to deliver resource matching across NI. We require a high‑performing business‑facing practitioner to work across business sectors to find creative solutions to otherwise wasted resources.
Responsibilities:
- Support businesses in identifying opportunities to reduce or re‑purpose waste streams.
- Assist them in purchasing more sustainable products through their supply chain.
- Help reduce operational costs and overheads.
- Explain and interpret jargon related to Carbon Footprinting and Net‑Zero targets.
- Match businesses that can utilise each other’s resources.
- Communicate any matches back for reporting.
- Set up and meet with businesses across NI.
- Gather information on what businesses are purchasing & wasting.
- Identify new businesses to onboard to the program.
- Present on behalf of ISL at regional events and conferences.
- Use ISL’s synergy matching database to identify re‑use opportunities.
- Introduce companies to one another to facilitate and harvest sharing of resources.
- Use ISL software to report matches made.
- Attend weekly online meetings & in‑person meetings in Belfast as needed.
- Work collectively across the ISL team to achieve annual targets.
- Use MS applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for recording & reporting purposes.
- Establish and maintain open and friendly business relationships.
- Facilitate workshops and issue follow‑up reports to delegates.
- Use digital tools to maximise resource matching as and when needed.
- Self‑manage project work, pipeline, and timely delivery against agreed personal targets.
The Ideal Candidate will:
- Have experience of business engagement & customer relations.
- Hold relevant engineering, energy, or environmental skills & experience.
- Ideally hold a third‑level academic qualification.
- Have knowledge of or previous interaction with the resource matching service.
- Know the circular economy, waste policy & regulations.
- Identify new possibilities for material reuse by another organisation.
- Have experience of on‑site reuse (recovery, repair and restore) practices.
- Be passionate about helping businesses reduce carbon and costs.
- Be friendly, approachable and a good networker.
- Have access to transport to visit organisations across NI.
- Be well‑versed in environmental and climate change drivers for business.
- Be willing to undertake training & development in sustainability.
