We are currently seeking a highly skilled registered nurse, with registration in the UK or Australia, to join our client team based in Baghdad, Iraq. This pivotal role encompasses overseeing both clinical and administrative operations within the clinic, ensuring delivery of exemplary patient care, medical support, and customer service excellence. The successful candidate will be entrusted with the provision of clinical occupational health nursing, emergency care, and general nursing services for both inpatient and outpatient populations, whilst maintaining rigorous administrative compliance and reporting standards.
This role offers a unique opportunity to apply nursing expertise within a dynamic international healthcare setting, contributing to business planning and patient-centred care improvements. The nurse will act as a key liaison between clinical staff and management, fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
Key responsibilities
- Apply advanced clinical skills to perform thorough patient assessments, accurately identifying individual health needs and effectively managing clinical priorities in accordance with best practices.
- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of personalised care plans when applicable, ensuring high standards of evidence-based nursing care consistent with established models within the clinic.
- Manage critical care scenarios and emergencies with competence, including resuscitation procedures, post-resuscitation care, airway management techniques (e.g., endotracheal intubation, artificial ventilation), invasive monitoring, administration of inotropic drugs, paralyzing agents, and sedation protocols.
- Coordinate and assist in immobilisation procedures for fractures, ensuring safe and effective application of splints and casts.
- Facilitate wound management processes requiring suturing by preparing necessary equipment and coordinating clinical support.
- Maintain strict control over controlled drugs by holding custody of drug keys and performing regular audits, including weekly, monthly, and quarterly stock reconciliations in alignment with regulatory standards.
- Deliver exceptional patient experience by fostering a hands-on, personalised approach to care. Promote a clinic-wide culture of outstanding customer service to minimise complaints and enhance patient satisfaction.
- Ensure clinic operations, including staffing, equipment maintenance, and support services, consistently meet the highest operational readiness and quality standards.
- Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and support to clinical staff, driving adherence to best clinical practices and continuous professional development within the International SOS Clinic environment.
- Collaborate with leadership and multidisciplinary teams to contribute to business planning, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Act as an advocate for patient rights and workplace safety, ensuring that the clinic environment is safe, professional, and equipped to handle varied medical scenarios.
About you
This role will suit you if you are a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse holding APHRA registration or an internationally recognised equivalent, with a strong clinical background in critical care environments such as ICU or Emergency Rooms. You will have a minimum of five years' hands-on clinical experience, complemented by 2 to 5 years in healthcare management or unit supervision within a large medical or emergency care facility.
Additional attributes include:
- A Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Nursing (or an equivalent qualification).
- Experience in clinical training, quality management, or similar roles, with proven ability to develop and implement performance improvement programmes.
- Relevant certification such as Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- An understanding of intensive care and emergency protocols, ideally with training or mentorship experience in these areas.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster a collaborative team culture focused on delivering high quality clinical care and patient safety.
