About the role

Are you looking for an opportunity to broaden your medical and clinical knowledge in a truly global team? Due to the success and growth of our team, International SOS is currently recruiting a Coordinating Nurse to be based at offices in Chiswick Park, London. This is an office-based position, with no nightshifts. This is your chance to join a global team who strive for the best possible care for each and every patient.

Key responsibilities

  • Focusing on quality and excellent patient care, liaising with colleagues based in 27 different countries and utilising the company’s extensive global resources to provide outstanding medical assistance to patients and clients across the world.
  • Receiving calls from patients located anywhere in the world. Performing telephonic triage/holistic medical assessment (a great mix of primary care/complex medical emergency), providing risk-assessed evidence-based medical advice and medical direction to patients.
  • Providing pre-trip travel advice including assessment of pre-trip travel medical risks and advising on travel health and vaccination requirements.
  • Assessing medical standards of care in the patient’s location against international standards and providing guidance on fitness to fly.
  • Coordinating medical care for patients anywhere in the world, interpreting medical situations with a tailored risk analysis of condition vs geographical location.
  • Directing patients to the best medical facilities in a specific location.
  • Liaising with international medical professionals to obtain medical information about patients, coordinate medical treatment and making recommendations on change/upgrade in care.
  • Arranging medical evacuations and repatriations, either via commercial carrier (with medical escorts) or air ambulance.
  • The opportunity to act as medical escort for medical evacuation/repatriation.
  • Being involved in internal quality-improvement projects.

About you

Requirements for a Coordinating Nurse:

  • NMC registered with typically around 5 years’ experience in ICU/Emergency setting.
  • Broad clinical experience in either travel/global health, public health, cruise ship, military nursing, humanitarian/NGO work.
  • Able to identify critical medical issues and act promptly to escalate and case manage.
  • Able to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment, adaptable and empathetic.
  • Excellent telephone manner and technical skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Databases).
  • Proficient in written and spoken English language with good communication skills.
  • Additional language(s) an advantage.
