University Professor of Sport Science with Focus on Biomechanics

The University of Innsbruck invites applications for the position described above at the Department of Sport Science, Faculty of Psychology and Sport Science. This position is established in accordance with Article 98 of the Austrian Universities’ Act (Universitätsgesetz – UG) and will be based on a civil‑law employment contract in the framework of the Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz). The contract is for an unlimited period with a full workload of 100%.

Responsibilities

The chair-holder is to represent the subject of “Sport Science” in research and teaching with a focus on “Biomechanics”, especially at the interface with “Sport Technology”. The successful candidate should bring new impulses to the well‑established biomechanical and sports‑technology research activities at the Department of Sport Science. The preferred focus areas include biomechanics and the development and implementation of state‑of‑the‑art technologies in sports science and practice. An international leadership role in these fields is expected, with particular interest given to alpine sports activities.

She/He will seek close cooperation with the units of the faculty’s Research Areas “Neuromechanics”, “Physiology and Prevention”, “Sports Medicine”, “Sports Psychology”, “Sports Economics” and “Active Mobility” and will also participate in the faculty‑spanning Research Areas “Health and Prevention over the Life Span” and “Alpine Sports”, part of the university’s research focus area “Mountain Regions”. Further collaborations with researchers in the technical and natural science faculties at the University of Innsbruck are encouraged.

In teaching, the future professor will cover the subject area “Sport Science” with a focus on “Biomechanics” at all three levels of the Bologna System (B.A., M.A., Ph.D.) in the relevant courses of the Faculty of Psychology and Sport Science. Participation in appropriate Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in other faculties and an active participation in doctoral programmes is desired.

Personal involvement in academic administration and self‑governance as well as in the department’s and faculty’s working groups will form another essential duty.

Employment Requirements

• A degree in higher education in Austria or the equivalent abroad, pertinent to the position.
• Habilitation or a comparable qualification (e.g. senior lecturer, associate professor).
• Publications in leading international peer‑reviewed academic journals.
• Proven competence in biomechanical measurement, data analysis and simulation methods.
• Demonstrated integration into the international research community through relevant international publications, professional networks, and experience.
• Interdisciplinary work, preferably in technology development, sports, health, and prevention.
• Relevant international experience.
• Experience in acquiring and managing competitive third‑party funding.
• Pronounced teaching skills.
• Management skills.
• The ability to teach in English and German; knowledge of German is not a prerequisite, but the holder of the position will be expected to acquire the necessary German language skills for university duties in the medium term.

Compensation and Benefits

In line with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, professors are in remuneration group A 1, i.e. for a full‑term professorship the basic salary is €6 604,30 (14 times).
