Chetham’s School of Music seeks an accomplished performer, teacher and leader with a specialism in Woodwind to fulfil a Head of Department role.

The Job

  • A permanent, term time only role from January 2027 (subject to recruitment checks).
  • 4 days per week, Monday to Friday (with additional hours supporting student performances/ rehearsals during the evening and at weekends as required). Hours can be considered on an individual and flexible basis. (This role may be suitable for a job share for the right candidates).
  • Regular Saturday morning work is required, plus some evening and additional weekend work.
  • The role will focus on caretaking the Woodwind, Brass and Percussion Department. The successful candidate(s) will support our Woodwind, Brass & Percussion students to continue to reach the highest of musical standards within a nurturing environment, focussed on personal growth and wellbeing. Able to inspire, teach and support all levels of students alike, candidates will equally be capable of working at management level – liaising with parent and the wider staff team.

  • Salary – MPS plus responsibility allowance B (0.8) FTE equivalent.
  • Flexibility available in respect to working hours.
