Durham School for Girls in Doha offers a British Curriculum education to a vibrant community of 1,350 predominantly Qatari girls. Our mission is to develop confident and resilient learners, preparing them for “Confidence for Life.” We seek an exceptional Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join our team and build SEN provision across the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the identification of pupils with SEN and disseminate effective teaching approaches.
  • Work with staff to develop strategies that bridge learning barriers.
  • Assess needs, monitor teaching quality and pupil achievement, and set targets through IEPs or provision maps.
  • Collect and interpret specialist assessment data to inform practice.
  • Ensure all learning is of equal importance and that staff hold high, realistic expectations for all pupils.
  • Develop and implement in‑class support strategies and lead small‑group work for pupils requiring additional help, designing practical, impactful interventions that promote measurable progress.
  • Create or source resources that support a variety of learning needs and ensure accessibility and tailoring to individual learning styles.

Leading and Managing Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted training and professional development for teachers on inclusive practices, including workshops, resource materials and ongoing support.
  • Provide regular information to the Inclusion Lead on the evaluation of SEN provision.
  • Assist the Inclusion Lead in the strategic development of SEN policy and provision.
  • Coordinate with the Examinations Officer and key academic/pastoral staff to secure appropriate examination concessions.
  • Deploy staff and resources effectively, advising prioritisation for maximum efficiency.
  • Review data and feedback regularly, refine approaches, identify emerging needs, and ensure interventions produce desired outcomes.

Additional Duties

Applicants must be willing to undertake other reasonable duties as requested by senior leadership.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven ability to lead and strategically develop whole‑school SEN provision and policy.
  • Culturally sensitive and adaptable in supporting students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Skilled in delivering staff training and professional development on inclusive teaching practices.
  • Expertise in using assessment data to design, implement, and evaluate targeted interventions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Relevant degree subject approved by the Qatar MOE.
  • Teaching certification required by Qatar MOEHE.
