Safeguarding: Ensure appropriate action is taken in a timely manner to safeguard and promote children’s welfare, demonstrate a regular commitment to safeguarding training, keep accurate and detailed records of concerns on MyConcern, and adhere to all safeguarding related policies, including online safety, prevention, whistleblowing, and the code of conduct at all times.
Learning and Teaching: Plan, deliver and evaluate lessons for year 12 and year 13 students in accordance with the exam board specification, putting the learning needs of students at the centre of what you do. Set learning objectives and targets for your students and ensure regular feedback is given to pupils on their progress and how they can improve. Develop medium and long term schemes of work and produce appropriate teaching resources to support the learning needs of your students. Adapt schemes of work to respond to emerging student needs. Identify and support gifted and talented pupils, and work with learning support and the EAL department to ensure all children that you teach make progress and fulfil their potential. Establish and maintain a positive, safe and purposeful learning environment in line with the school’s behaviour policy. Develop cross‑curricular links within your faculty and across the school as a whole. Develop enrichment opportunities in your subject, including running school trips and visits. Prioritise professional development and stay up to date with developments in your subject. Ensure that the curriculum which you teach remains in accordance with exam board criteria and is also relevant, engaging and outward‑looking.
Assessment and Monitoring: Analyse student performance data to inform teaching, track progress and implement targeted intervention strategies in line with school policy. Monitor the effectiveness of subject intervention strategies, and adjust them to meet emerging student needs. Design and implement appropriate assessments, including internal examinations and mock exams, in line with exam board requirements. Prepare students for external examinations, including providing revision support.
Wider School Responsibilities: Represent your academic department at parents' evenings, options' evenings and open days. Attend all termly inset days, allocated duties, staff meetings and whole school events such as Speech Day, House events and school trips. Participate and contribute towards the whole school Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme and seek out opportunities to ensure you continually evolve and improve your teaching practice. Set objectives, in conjunction with your Head of Faculty, to move your department forward in the medium and long term. Participate in learning visits with colleagues and be part of wider learning conversations within the school. Oversee your departmental budget to ensure effective use of resources for maximum impact.
