The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is one of the world's largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations (INGO), at work in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities.

This is a One-Year Contract supporting maternity coverage.

Purpose and Department

The Awards Management Unit (AMU) has responsibility for identifying, securing and managing all funding from government donors for the IRC. AMU is a bridge between donors and the IRC’s work on the ground. The unit provides expert technical advice to colleagues delivering our services around the world, ensures consistency and compliance with our donors’ policies and procedures, and manages risk. The unit also supports all IRC staff working on awards from government donors and partnerships. IRC’s Crisis Response, Recovery & Development department (CRRD) within which this role sits, leads and delivers the IRC’s work in crisis-affected contexts around the world.

The Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Director European Donor Engagement, the Advisor - UN & Global Donor Engagement will support IRC’s work to deliver its Business Development (BD) Strategy, supporting donor engagement and influence with our key donors within the United Nations (UN); UNHCR, OCHA, UNICEF, UNFPA, and UN Women coupled with providing flexible business coordination for the broader portfolio. The Advisor will support, guide, and coordinate IRC’s funding focused engagement across our prioritized UN agencies. The post holder will provide an internal and external “account management” function to support engagement with these donors. The role is responsible for providing expertise and leadership on donor relations. They will coordinate with regional, compliance and technical teams on UN related analysis, business development and influential engagement around policy shifts. The Advisor will support the development and implementation of strategies for proactive donor and partner relationships on behalf of IRC. The role will develop and maintain positive working relationships and standards of collaboration with colleagues across the organization, including the Awards Management Unit, International Division (CRRD) and External Relations. The role will also support the Director for Global Donor Engagement in liaising with the President’s Office on UN and Business Development issues, as well as provide support for advising the leadership board on relevant trends in UN funding.

Major Responsibilities

  • UN Donor Engagement – Strategy: Support comprehensive multi-year business development strategic plans for relevant UN Agencies, with emphasis on UNHCR, UNICEF, UN-OCHA, UNFPA, and UN Women. Carry out research, data generation and analysis for priority donors in the engagement portfolio. Work with compliance, regional, and technical staff to review due diligence and support new UN donor assessment processes as identified. Identify, research and update relevant data and analysis on donor strategies, peer activity and priorities.
  • External Representation: Facilitate meetings between UN donors and Regional and Technical Leadership, Country Directors, Regional Vice Presidents and the President/CEO, and support preparation for these engagements. Prepare for key meetings with UN stakeholders, including relevant analysis, briefing materials and participation as necessary. Lead follow-up and disseminate information across the organization as required. Support the Director for Global Donor Engagement to coordinate IRC’s participation at high-level conferences in collaboration with relevant colleagues. Represent the IRC at external meetings, events, and forums as appropriate.
  • Information and Knowledge Management: Proactively identify and broker relationships with key officials and stakeholders. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UN donor strategies relevant to IRC’s work, such as funding priorities, geographical interests and political climate, providing analyses and synopses of press releases, policies and other announcements, and disseminating this information internally. Utilize IRC’s CRM, Salesforce, to plan, track and maintain a register of UN donor engagement at country, regional and global levels; triangulate information and ensure staff are well briefed and consistent in donor engagement. Maintain and contribute to the improvement of tools and resources to support engagement and relationship building.
  • Flexible Support To Other Donor Engagement: Work with the Director, European Donor Engagement to provide effective support to new or emerging donors, including due diligence assessment, information gathering and analysis, donor engagement strategy and direct oversight of donor engagement plans.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in humanitarian or development business development, donor relations, policy or advocacy or a combination of these.
  • Knowledge of having worked with or for UN and/or humanitarian and development donors.
  • Strong collaboration approaches in a large organizational setting.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, including development of briefing documents.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced and changing environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience undertaking reviews of policies and reports, producing related guidance to staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team.

Compensation: Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements. UK Pay Range: ÂŁ54,800 - ÂŁ58,736.
