About the Role

We are looking for a proactive and detail‑driven Finance Accountant to play a key role in supporting the day‑to‑day running of our finance function. This is a hands‑on position with responsibility across accounts payable, banking, VAT, and month‑end activities, ensuring accurate processing, reconciliation, and reporting. This role is well suited to an experienced finance professional who is comfortable operating across both transactional and month‑end work, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and enjoys working to deadlines within a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounts Payable & Expenses
    • End‑to‑end processing of supplier invoices, ensuring accuracy, appropriate coding, and timely posting
    • Managing supplier queries and completing statement reconciliations
    • Oversight of company card transactions, including approvals, posting, and reconciliation
    • Ensuring expenditure complies with internal policies and approval limits
  • Banking & Reconciliations
    • Daily bank updates and reconciliations across relevant bank accounts
    • Investigating and resolving reconciling items in a timely manner
    • Supporting payment runs and ensuring payments are accurately recorded
  • VAT & Compliance
    • Preparation and submission of VAT returns in line with HMRC requirements
    • Supporting the application of partial exemption rules within an insurance‑based, VAT‑exempt environment
    • Maintaining VAT records, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
    • Assisting with the calculation and monitoring of recoverable and non‑recoverable VAT
  • Month‑End Support
    • Preparation and posting of accruals and prepayments
    • Supporting month‑end close activities to agreed deadlines
    • Assisting with balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining supporting documentation
  • General Finance Support
    • Supporting the wider finance team with ad‑hoc tasks and projects
    • Contributing to the continuous improvement of finance processes and controls
    • Building strong working relationships with internal stakeholders

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Previous experience in a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant, or similar role
  • Strong working knowledge of accounts payable and bank reconciliations
  • Experience preparing accruals and prepayments
  • Exposure to VAT returns
  • Good Excel skills and confidence working with finance systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and financial accuracy

Desirable:

  • Part‑qualified (or studying towards) AAT, or equivalent experience
