The Need
For 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty.
As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence by 2030, we are seeking a Lead, Demand-Side Advocacy & Partnerships to provide strategy implementation, policy analysis, subject matter expertise, cross-team collaboration, and project management to implement and achieve targeted demand-side online safety advocacy interventions and goals of IJM’s Program Against Online Sexual Exploitation of Children, via IJM’s Center to End Online Sexual Exploitation of Children (the “Center”). This role is expected to contribute significantly to the program objectives of implementing Scale of Harm research study recommendations, driving the achievement of protecting children from livestreamed child sexual abuse via the critical support of online safety laws and regulations centered on “safety-by-design” prevention and informed by and advocated for in partnership with survivor leaders. The #1 objective of this position is to support demand-side advocacy.
The ideal candidate is a professional with experience in tech policy, advocacy, and partnerships with and among governments, non-profit organizations, corporations, and international institutions. The ideal candidate has experience developing clear and persuasive written professional products and presentations responsive to target audiences, topics, and objectives; communicates professionally in all settings; and works well independently, across cultures and time zones. The ideal candidate has experience with programming to protect children from online sexual exploitation, bringing this experience and credibility to bear in demand-side advocacy engagements. This position leverages IJM and external products, research, partnerships, and subject matter expertise.
This role’s key routines include legislative and regulatory proposal review and analysis; review and analysis of research studies, data, and cases to leverage for advocacy; persuasive and professional writing; delivering presentations internally and externally; cross-team, cross-region, and cross-time zone collaboration, including with leaders and staff in the Philippines; partnership development and management; event planning and implementation.
This position works remotely with IJM teams across regions and partners based in various time zones across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, with domestic travel (4-5x a year) and international travel (3-4xs a year). In order to accommodate these different time zones, the position will need to work hours outside of traditional working hours within a 40-hour work week. The position does not need to work out of a physical IJM office in order to accomplish the required duties.
This is a remote position based in the United States and in locations where IJM has an office in Europe. This role reports to the Executive Director, Center to End Online Sexual Exploitation of Children and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US and in relevant locations in Europe.
Responsibilities
Communication
- Clearly and persuasively communicate in external engagements, meetings, and in written pieces with Center partners and stakeholders to mobilize key stakeholders in support of demand-side advocacy strategic objectives, distilling complicated topics into simple communications.
- Prepare well-organized, professional and persuasive written products, including policy briefs and FAQs, for sharing with key stakeholders.
- Provide regular communications to supervisor and relevant IJM teams and leaders on progress in projects.
- Provide timely updates on research, data, and resources to support other IJM teams to successfully collaborate on demand-side advocacy.
- Prepare clear, compelling, professional, and up-to-date slide presentations and other communication visuals for relevant engagements.
- In collaboration with other subject matter experts within and outside of IJM, adapt, refine and contextualize advocacy and partnership strategies, tactics, messaging, and communications.
- In collaboration with Center leadership and internal stakeholders, create a global roadmap and timeline for implementing advocacy and activation strategies across high priority entities.
- Support collaboration with IJM media and communications teams on relevant engagements.
Networking & Partnerships
- Facilitate and participate in partnership meetings and calls during North America, Europe and APAC business hours.
- Support partnership development with government and key stakeholders to advance effective laws and regulations.
- Consult with governments and regulators on online child sexual abuse issues, legislative gaps, safety by design principles, and policy proposals alongside survivor leaders and IJM experts.
- Manage key partner and stakeholder relationships.
- Represent IJM in forums, events, and conferences.
- Collaborate with the Director, Law Enforcement Development & Consulting to leverage global speaking engagements in support of demand-side advocacy.
- Support government advocacy efforts in the Philippines, aligning with demand-side strategies.
Research, Program Management and M&E
- Collaborate with the Program Management and MERL teams in using developed M&E tools for tracking and reporting impact of demand-side advocacy interventions.
- Collaborate with Program Management and MERL teams in developing, updating, and monitoring KPI’s.
- Develop and update demand-side research database and advise on potential demand-side research initiatives.
- Protect the intellectual property rights of IJM by implementing knowledge management and abiding by IJM policies.
- Participation in IJM’s community of spiritual formation.
- Participate in Center team meetings and other activities
- Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Law, International Development, Public Policy, Economics, Criminal Justice, or another related field.
At least 3 years of experience in programming addressing online sexual exploitation of children, with overseas/Philippines in country experience beneficial but not required (i.e. for credibility, firsthand knowledge/experience with the crime type, survivors, leaders, etc).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Demonstrated experience working effectively cross-culturally, cross-team, and across multiple time zones required
Proven professional, persuasive English writing experience and oral presentation skills
Ability to communicate and collaborate with multi-disciplinary program teams
Exceptional professional written and oral communication skills in English
Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills
Skilled in facilitation and collaboration
Subject matter expertise on Anti-OSEC and legal policy analysis
In-depth knowledge of OSEC issues, anti-OSEC programming, NGO and government engagement in Global North and Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines, required.
