Senior Communications Officer, Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF)
The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is an award-winning independent think tank working to accelerate solutions for a stable climate, sustainable resource management, and fair economies. The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) supports more than 80 member countries committed to leveraging mining for sustainable development while limiting its negative impacts.
We are seeking a Senior Communications Officer to lead communications for the IGF Mining Team. This is a pivotal role that combines strategic communications, brand positioning, media outreach, digital engagement, and event communications. The role is critical in amplifying IGF’s voice globally, shaping narratives on mining and sustainable development, and ensuring that the Forum’s work resonates with governments, industry, media, civil society, and the wider public.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic communications plans for IGF projects, reports, and events, including the AGM.
- Serve as a communications advisor to IGF senior staff, providing guidance on messaging and outreach to ensure clarity, impact, and resonance with diverse audiences.
- Supervise junior staff, including setting objectives and conducting performance reviews.
- Ensure brand coherence and compliance across all IGF materials and platforms.
Content Development and Outreach
- Produce and edit compelling and high-quality written and digital content for expert and non-expert audiences.
- Maintain and update IGF webpages, ensuring content is timely and accurate.
- Oversee development of visual and multimedia products, coordinating with consultants and IISD’s design team as needed.
- Support IGF staff in communicating research and policy messages effectively, including through media training and social media coaching.
Required Skills And Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, public policy, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of professional experience in communications, journalism, or public relations, ideally related to international policy or sustainable development.
- Bilingual English/French. Excellent English and French verbal and written communication skills; Spanish an asset.
- Proven experience managing communications for international, member-based, or multilateral organizations.
- Strong experience with digital platforms, including content management systems, analytics tools, and social media management.
