The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a defence and security think tank that has a deep understanding of regional geopolitics and geo-economics in a global context. Its international researchers provide best-in-class independent and impartial analysis and provide insights on strategic challenges and priorities to governments and the private sector. It is expert at bringing together national leaders and senior policymakers in foreign policy, defence and security; promoting dialogue; and facilitating effective and influential bilateral and multilateral consultations.
The Institute is seeking to appoint an Assistant Editor to contribute to the work of the Editorial Services team. This role reports to an Associate Editor.
Responsibilities
- Fact-checking, copy-editing and proofreading IISS publications, to IISS House Style (including text, maps and infographics).
- Project-managing IISS publications, including Adelphi books, and research papers for print and digital formats.
- Copy-editing and proofreading IISS newsletters and other Institute communications, to IISS House Style.
- Participating as necessary in product development and sales and marketing discussions for IISS publications.
Requirements
- Demonstrable ability to copy-edit and proofread in English and a sharp eye for detail (essential).
- Basic experience of relationship management (essential).
- An understanding of international affairs or global military issues (advantageous).

The IISS provides a full employment package.
