At IH London, we’ve been shaping language education for over 60 years. As a founding member of the International House World Organisation, we’re known for academic quality, innovation, and a genuinely international community. Each year, we teach over 8,000 students from 150+ countries. But just as importantly, we invest in our teachers.

You’ll be joining a department that is well-structured, communicative, and supportive, with the resources and academic guidance you need to do your best work. Our teachers value us: “I love the cultural and language diversity at IH London.” “Communication in the foreign languages department is brilliant. The team is approachable, organised, and supportive.” “The department is very well-run. The administrative staff are responsive, efficient, and friendly. A great place to work.”

Why work with us?

  • Academic structure that supports you: You’ll teach from a clear syllabus with high-quality resources, so you can focus on teaching rather than reinventing the wheel.
  • Continuity with your students: Once assigned a group, you’ll typically progress with them through levels, allowing you to see real development and build meaningful classroom dynamics.
  • Engaged adult learners: Our students are motivated young professionals (typically 20–30s), making lessons dynamic, purposeful, and rewarding.
  • Professional environment: Small classes (max 15) and a well-run department that values consistency and quality.
  • Flexibility with stability: Casual (0-hour) contract with opportunities for regular classes, plus additional cover work where available.
  • Development opportunities: Access to IH training, workshops, and a global teaching network.
  • Central London location: Teach in a vibrant, well-connected area in the heart of the city.

What you’ll do

  • Deliver high-quality, communicative Portuguese lessons to adult learners
  • Plan engaging lessons aligned with IH syllabi
  • Monitor progress and provide clear, constructive feedback

  • Free language courses
  • Access to IH professional development
  • Supportive academic team and strong teaching infrastructure

Recruitment Process

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an in-person interview, which includes a formal interview.

If you’re passionate about teaching Portuguese and want to join an international team in a welcoming, professional environment, we’d love to hear from you. All candidates are required to apply for roles via the Hireful platform. Applications are reviewed by the relevant Hiring Manager, who will contact shortlisted candidates to arrange interviews.

Please note that if you are successful at the interview stage, all offers are subject to a right to work in the UK eligibility check, us receiving two references, a Disclosure and Barring Service Check and Police Check (if living abroad) that are considered satisfactory to IH London. We encourage fairness and equality in our recruitment and selection process. Our shortlisting and interviewing will be carried out by more than one person: Internal members of the interview panels are informed about the company’s recruitment and selection of staff policy. Interview questions will be related to the requirements of the job and not of a discriminatory nature.
