TYPE OF CONTRACT: Casual

HOURS: Up to 20 hrs total per week: Monday to Sunday evening shifts: 3-hour shifts (20:30 - 23:30), Saturday and Sunday: 5-hour shifts. Additional shifts may be available as required.

SALARY: £14.80

ANNUAL LEAVE: Holiday pay paid as a percentage on top of the hourly rate.

Located in the heart of Covent Garden, we are looking for a reliable and hardworking Evening Cleaner to join our Facilities team and help maintain the high standards our students, staff, and visitors expect.

The role: We are looking for a dependable and motivated Evening Cleaner who takes pride in their work and enjoys maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation. You will work independently and as part of a small team, carrying out a range of cleaning duties and ensuring all tasks are completed safely and efficiently.

Scope and impact: Every day, IH London welcomes students, teachers, staff, and visitors from across the globe. The cleanliness and safety of our facilities have a direct impact on their experience. As an Evening Cleaner, you will help ensure that our learning and working environments remain safe, hygienic, and welcoming, supporting the wellbeing of everyone who uses our facilities.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high cleaning standards across the school, working closely with the Facilities team and following all health and safety procedures.
  • Cleaning & Hygiene:
    • Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors throughout the building.
    • Clean classrooms, offices, communal areas, and staff spaces.
    • Clean and sanitise toilets and washrooms to a high standard.
    • Wipe desks, whiteboards, telephones, keyboards, computer screens, and other surfaces.
    • Clean windowsills, skirting boards, glass partitions, and furniture as required.
    • Wash and put away used mugs, cutlery, and kitchen items.
  • Waste Management:
    • Empty litter bins and dispose of waste appropriately.
    • Transfer recycling and general waste to designated storage areas.
    • Maintain correct separation of recyclable and non-recyclable waste.
  • Facilities Support:
    • Refill soap dispensers, toilet paper, and hand towel supplies.
    • Maintain cleaning cupboards and stock levels.
    • Report maintenance issues, damage, leaks, or hazards promptly.
    • Move tables, chairs, and portable equipment where required.
  • Health, Safety & Security:
    • Use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely and responsibly.
    • Follow COSHH, safeguarding, and health and safety procedures.
    • Work safely when carrying out lone-working duties where required.
    • Lock the building and activate intruder alarms when necessary (full training provided).

Qualifications we're looking for:

  • Essential Qualifications:
    • Previous cleaning experience or relevant practical experience.
    • Understanding of workplace health and safety.
    • Good spoken English communication skills.
  • Desirable Qualifications:
    • COSHH certification.
    • First Aid certification.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Fire Marshal training.
    • Ability to safely carry out physical duties associated with the role.
    • Experience of lone working.
    • Reliability, flexibility, and punctuality.
    • Basic IT skills.
