We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Commercial Manager to join our commercial team on a maternity cover basis. This role is crucial in driving our business initiatives and ensuring the smooth operation of our commercial channels. The Commercial Manager is responsible for project managing new commercial channels and supporting the growth of established commercial channels. This is a broad remit that delivers on the organisation’s commercial strategy to sustainably grow revenue, and plays a pivotal role in building relationships with members, partners and customers, achieving revenue targets, keeping projects to time and budget, and expanding market reach. Reporting to the Commercial Director, the Commercial Manager is an agile worker who is just as comfortable having commercial conversations with C-Suite executives as they are in project managing the launch of a new software product.

About us: International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) is the global trade association for shipowners and operators, representing the world’s national shipowner associations and more than 80% of the world merchant fleet. The aim of ICS is to act as an advocate for the industry on issues of maritime affairs, shipping policy and technical matters, including ship construction, operation, safety and management, and to develop best practice in the industry.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead new business initiatives: Oversee project development, market research, and product launches.
  • Manage timelines, budgets and stakeholder relationships.
  • Manage commercial channels: Optimise processes and engage with key customers to hit revenue targets.
  • Manage member relationships: Grow and retain the membership base.
  • Improve business processes: Review and enhance sales processes and websites.
  • Support software integration and perform user experience testing.
  • Build networks: Network at industry events and identify potential customers.
  • Develop strategies to expand the customer base.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Proven experience in project management, business development or a similar role, ideally in the maritime sector.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Proficiency in software solutions and technology integration.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
