REPORTING TO: Communications Manager

WORKING WITH: Chairman, Secretary General, Members and Policy Teams

JOB SUMMARY:

Working with the Communications Team for the delivery of the ICs communications strategy across a range of media and stakeholders, to increase the profile and visibility of ICs and the shipping industry globally, reaching the wider public, non‐maritime policy makers and opinion formers, to promote greater awareness of issues such as the vital contribution of shipping to the global economy and its environmental performance. This role is also responsible for supporting the commercial activity of the organisation, working closely with the commercial team to promote products and services to market.

JOB CONTENT:

  • Work with the Communications Executive and Communications Manager to execute the communications plan.
  • Day to day management of the ICs website Content Management System, including adherence to regulations, and responsibility for the distribution of digital content for the website (photography, video, audio).
  • Maintain and enhance website content including writing new material and re‐purposing existing copy for social media channels.
  • Update and manage a calendar of social media activity, and ensure timely execution.
  • Help coordinate the production of the newsletter and other collateral as required.
  • Ensure key member events are accurately updated on the website and communicated via appropriate social media channels.
  • Responsible for the tracking and measurement of ICs website and social media content, and assist the Communications Executive with any other monitoring and evaluation tools.
  • Ensure the maintenance of ICs website and social media accounts is always up to date.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders, and external suppliers and agencies as appropriate.
  • Ensure consistency of tone and style, and adherence to ICs brand guidelines, on all social media channels.
  • Work with the communications team to regularly test the effectiveness of messages and channels through questionnaires, reporting, and through building relationships, and amend where necessary.
  • Carry out various administrative tasks as required to support the communications team.

Commercial activity:

  • Create marketing collateral to support new and emerging commercial activity, in liaison with the commercial team, using all available media and channels (email, social media, digital, print).
  • Maintain a marketing schedule for commercial activity and keep to budgets and timelines set in agreement with the commercial team.
  • Attend meetings with the commercial team and external marketing partner, reporting on commercial activity to the Head of Publications.
  • Ensure externally created marketing collateral (e.g. by commercial partners) fits into the social media calendar and that content aligns with ICs communications strategy.
  • Identify the different markets ICs is trying to reach with its communications and commercial strategies, and develop an understanding of the best channels and content to reach these markets.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrable experience of using social media channels to generate coverage.
  • Demonstrable experience of tailoring content for different markets, with an understanding of the different channels required to reach identified markets.
  • Skills in editing, video, photography.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing website content and using Content Management Systems.
  • A strong understanding of measurement analytics.
  • Self-driven and an ability to work on own initiative.
  • Excellent English written and oral communications skills.
  • Fast and accurate research, writing and copy‐editing skills.
  • Experience of using AGILITY or similar coverage and distribution system desirable.
  • Understanding of the maritime sector desirable but not essential.
  • Additional language appreciated but not essential.
  • Right to work in the UK.

IT SKILLS:

  • MS Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of SharePoint 365 and associated applications is also desirable.
