Political & Financial Risk Underwriter - London Market

A leading Lloyd's insurer is looking to add to its Political & Financial Risk team as part of its continued growth plans. This could be a great career-development opportunity for an experienced PFR Underwriter or looking to take the next step. The team is also open to individuals from a strong Credit or PVT analytical background who have built solid market experience and are ready to transition into an underwriting career.

For someone coming from an analytical background, this is a genuine opportunity to use your technical knowledge and apply it commercially within an underwriting team, while developing your underwriting skills and career.

The portfolio is broad and technically interesting, covering risks connected to international banking and lending, trade and export finance, commodity trading, foreign direct investment and emerging markets.

The role will involve:

  • Assessing and pricing Political & Financial Risk transactions
  • Analysing sovereign, political and credit risk
  • Reviewing transaction structures, security and lending arrangements
  • Working with complex policy wordings and facility documentation
  • Monitoring portfolio exposures and changing geopolitical and economic environments
  • Working alongside Claims on distressed risks, restructurings and workout situations
  • Building relationships with brokers, insureds and reinsurers
  • Contributing to the continued development and growth of the portfolio

Ideally you will have 5+ years' relevant market experience, strong analytical skills and a genuine interest in international affairs, credit, finance and emerging-market risk.

This is a growth hire and a strong opportunity to join an established team with genuine scope to develop your technical expertise, underwriting exposure and longer-term career.
