  • Clinical Tutor
School of Optometry and Vision Sciences

The School of Optometry and Vision Sciences are looking to appoint a number of Clinical Tutors in all aspects of clinical teaching and are able to offer working arrangements to suit you including part and full days.

You may remember your time in university, and the impact that your Tutors made on your technique. Perhaps you have wondered whether you would like to impart some of your wisdom and advice to tomorrow’s optometrists? Perhaps you would like to contribute to shaping tomorrow’s optometrists and prepare them for a life in practice? Under the guidance of mentors within the School, we are offering the opportunity to do just this, in a variety of clinical settings. The role of the Clinical Tutor is varied and includes opportunities to teach in small groups, provide 1:1 support, advance students’ clinical competencies, provide occasional informal pastoral support to final year students, and enhance your own knowledge by being part of a team of supervisors; all of whom have areas of expertise and interest of their own. In the role, you become an integral and vital part of the Undergraduate teaching programme in the School and will support and contribute to the School’s outstanding record of graduate quality.

Applications are invited for supervisors of a variety of undergraduate clinics, including Primary Care, Contact Lenses, Binocular Vision, Low Vision, Dispensing and Special Assessment.

    IMPORTANT NOTES:

We will be making a number of contracted appointments with regular hours, working over 22 weeks of the year. Our contracts will be offered on a fixed term basis until 30th September 2028.

This post will be based in the School of Optometry Building, Maindy Road, Cardiff.

Salary: The hourly rate for a Clinic Tutor is £27.22 - £30.53 per hour. This rate is based on the Grade 6 hourly rate of £22.50-£25.23 (£41,064 – £46,049 pro rata per year) along with a 21% payment instead of annual leave.

Applications will be reviewed appropriately periodically as and when they are received, but the advert will remain open until the vacancies have been filled.

Date advert posted: Wednesday, 7 October 2026

Closing date: Sunday, 31 January 2027
