Position Summary

The Investment Office plays the central function for deal support, portfolio monitoring, and valuation for the private equity assets of ICG. This role based in London is to work as part core valuations team to oversee the monthly/quarterly portfolio review and valuation process by working closely with the deal executives to review portfolio information and models, to constructively challenge the valuation assessment, and to manage the audit process to achieve robust and efficient outcome.

With attention to details and a hands-on approach, the individual would be expected to manage the current process and systems, and also take a fresh look at the existing setup to seek improvements. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required as the role involves close interactions with all colleagues, notably with the deal teams, senior management, finance and funds operations, and IT. The position provides good insight of investment portfolio performance and management.

Primary Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Monthly/Quarterly Portfolio Review (QPR) and Valuation

  • Be the β€œgo-to” person to plan and manage the overall process and timeline; coordinate and manage the various stakeholders, notably the deal executives and finance teams for input, also the finance teams for output distribution, including liaising with third-party valuation providers

  • Review and constructively challenge individual valuation assessment and techniques (including DCF) to ensure consistency and compliance with the valuation policy for debt and/or equity investments, and uphold the overall quality standard

  • Perform analytical procedures at the portfolio level to derive insight

  • Monitor external market data and industry trends to inform valuation assumptions

  • Lead and facilitate the Investment Committee (IC) review and discussion

  • Be the gatekeeper and manage the distribution of monthly/QPR/Valuation information

  • Manage the audit procedures for both ICG PLC and ICG-managed funds around valuation for debt and/or equity investments

  • Ensure valuations are well-supported with detailed working papers, assumptions and rationales

  • Prepare the monthly/quarterly review pack for the Investment Committees and the Executive Committee, and distribute the monthly/quarterly deliverables to internal teams

Process and System Improvement

  • Stay on top of technical developments in relevant valuation guidance and practices and continue to seek improvements to internal valuation policies and procedures

  • Steer and contribute to the transformation projects to improve systems/ processes for portfolio monitoring and valuation

Portfolio Monitoring and Deal Support

  • Manage the information gathering, update, and monitoring of relevant statistics for deals, and perform analyses to derive insights

  • Provide ad-hoc support to investment activities (e.g. deal execution and realisation)

  • Provide ad-hoc support to portfolio information gathering and analysis

Key Requirements/ Qualifications

Ideally you will have an accounting qualification with at least five years post qualification and demonstrate the following:

  • Essential valuation skills and experience with private equity and debt investments

  • Solid accounting/ audit experience with a good commercial sense

  • Excellent with Excel and ideally some experience with financial modelling (e.g. discounted cashflow)

  • Working knowledge of valuation standards (IFRS 15, ASC 820, IPEV guidelines)

  • Good understanding of bonds, loans, and how private credit markets operate

  • Attention to details and hands on

  • Proactive and well organised, managing multiple tasks with priority

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
