Team Overview

  • The real estate finance team operates at the top of the market, advising both lenders and sponsors on investment and development financing in the UK and across Europe.
  • The practice also covers senior/mezzanine facilities, investment grade financing, and distressed or non-performing loan transactions.
  • Two-partner team with a strong cohort of associates and trainees.
  • Consistently ranked in the top tiers by leading legal directories.
  • Regularly advises on high-profile and sophisticated mandates.
  • Works closely with the wider real estate and finance teams across Europe.
  • Balanced lender/borrower practice, with a significant portion of lender-side work.

Primary Objectives

  • Deliver excellent client service and lead high-value real estate finance transactions.
  • Meet and exceed billable hours and performance expectations.
  • Build and develop strong client relationships.
  • Contribute to business development and growth initiatives.
  • Supervise, support, and mentor junior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Handle a broad range of transactional real estate finance matters with both domestic and cross-border elements.
  • Act as lead lawyer on suitable transactions, delegating effectively and coordinating with partners and colleagues.
  • Provide strategic advice on complex legal issues and manage matters efficiently, including WIP and billing.
  • Strengthen client relationships by anticipating needs, communicating proactively, and delivering high-quality advice.
  • Support firm-wide initiatives, including diversity & inclusion, CSR, training, and industry engagement.
  • Comply with all risk, regulatory, and professional obligations, and contribute to client onboarding and acceptance processes.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Qualified solicitor (or equivalent) in a relevant jurisdiction.
  • Senior associate-level experience in real estate finance from a comparable environment.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, writing, and project management skills.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of law firm financial performance.
  • Knowledge of real estate finance products and client sectors.
