Role Summary

The TOK Coordinator oversees all aspects of Theory of Knowledge, a core element of the IB programme, ensuring that students and staff are supported in fulfilling IB Diploma Programme requirements. The role ensures quality, consistency, and compliance with IB expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Introduce students to ToK and produce an overarching ToK guide for staff, students and parents/carers including expected hours of study and maintain an up‑to‑date understanding of the Theory of Knowledge curriculum and assessment framework.
  • Coordinate the taught ToK subject curriculum, ensuring it encompasses IB values, international mindedness and the IB approaches to teaching.
  • Lead on the administrative requirements of ToK as outlined in the ToK guide including the required actions for teachers and students.
  • Coordinate with the faculty to develop ToK opportunities within the wider Diploma curriculum.
  • Develop systems that monitor student progress and performance throughout the ToK course and ensure students and families understand the course requirements.
  • Work with the DPCo to support teachers to ensure consistency throughout the ToK curriculum and within individual subjects, through quality assurance practices.
  • Be responsible for scheduling, deadlines, reporting and assessment documentation of both the essay and exhibition, including internal moderation.
  • Role model effective and informed ToK teaching in their own lessons and as a model for fellow practitioners, including sharing ideas of how to integrate ToK in teaching.
  • Celebrate ToK achievements by showcasing and recognising effort and performance.
  • Work with the IBDP Leadership team to plan and promote activities that raise the profile of IB across the school, e.g. performances, competitions, enrichment opportunities.
  • Evaluate the ToK programme on an ongoing basis to identify improvement and development, feeding back to the IBDP co‑ordinator.
