We’re looking for an ambitious Mechanical 2nd Engineer to join our team in a brand-new role that offers long-term development and progression.
This role has been created as part of our future succession planning, offering the unique opportunity to work closely with the current Mechanical Engineer to gradually become the subject matter expert. It\’s a strategic opportunity to absorb critical site knowledge, take on increasing responsibility, and ultimately support a smooth transition of key expertise within the mechanical engineering function at Spalding Power Station.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting the management of all mechanical engineering assets, including steam and gas turbines, generators, HRSG, pressure systems, gas pipelines, and associated balance of plant equipment
- Assisting with the planning and execution of outage work – developing scopes, managing budgets, and ensuring safe delivery
- Monitoring asset health and driving performance improvements through structured engineering practices
- Investigating plant issues and working collaboratively with operations and maintenance teams to implement long-term solutions
- Leading or supporting mechanical projects from initiation through to completion, applying engineering rigour and a focus on continuous improvement
- Stepping in to provide support or cover for Engineers where needed, and contributing to wider InterGen initiatives or secondments
- Being on-call and adapting working patterns when required to meet business needs

Education/Experience
Ideally Degree/HND/Time Spent Apprenticeship in Engineering or related discipline, but we welcome candidates with strong industry experience or other relevant qualifications.
- You must bring practical knowledge from the power sector or similar heavy industries like oil, gas, or petrochemicals.
- You have hands-on experience with gas and steam turbines, boilers, pressure systems, and associated plant equipment.
- A solid understanding of safety standards is essential, and qualifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH would be highly beneficial.
- You’re progressing towards or have an ambition to achieve Chartered Engineer status.
