We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health, Safety & Compliance Manager to lead the health and safety strategy at our food manufacturing site in Plymouth.
The Role
Reporting to senior leadership, you will take responsibility for health and safety compliance across our operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and continuously improve our Health & Safety strategy across construction and factory environments
- Ensure full compliance with current legislation
- Develop, implement, and review H&S policies, procedures, and management systems
- Maintain all statutory documentation (H&S Policy, Risk Assessments, COSHH, Construction Phase Plans etc.)
- Oversee contractor vetting, induction, and monitoring in line with CDM Regulations 2015
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits across operational areas
- Ensure compliance with LOLER, PUWER and other relevant equipment regulations
- Identify training needs and ensure statutory and operational training compliance
- Lead accident and incident investigations, including RIDDOR reporting, root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Carry out environmental and noise monitoring within factory premises
- Maintain SEDEX compliance and support ethical audit processes
- Promote and embed a proactive, positive safety culture across all levels of the business
About You
You are more than a compliance manager — you will be a visible leader who can influence behaviours and challenge unsafe practices constructively.
You will have:
- Right to Work in the UK
- NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma, NVQ or NCRQ (essential)
- TechIOSH or GradIOSH membership (minimum)
- At least 2 years’ experience in a similar multi-site or operational role
- Strong working knowledge of construction and manufacturing safety requirements
- Experience with CDM 2015, LOLER, PUWER and RIDDOR
- Excellent communication skills
- Confidence to engage with site teams and senior management alike
- A proactive mindset with strong organisational and prioritisation skills
