About the client
Over the last 40 years, my client has pushed the boundaries of product innovation and expanded their operation into global markets with unrivalled partnerships across the middle and far east. Their UK market share stands at 30% with a mix of distribution, direct, online and partnership business. With 40 new sites opening over the next 5 years, 5 signed off for 2024 already, they have huge plans to grow and expand their operations with the use of their core systems all based around a Progress software platform.
Having recently experienced their most profitable three years since their inception, they are looking to hire two more Progress 4GL developers who have reasonable Openedge developer experience from Version 10 onwards. Core progress development will happen on Version 12, but we need developers who are open minded to new languages, frameworks and general development stacks.
Projects will be varied and in the main greenfield including EDI projects, new franchise site development, eglobal ecommerce projects, full site systems upgrades, API integration projects, 3rd party warehousing projects as well as the BAU projects to keep their product roadmaps relevant and pushing doundaries.
Responsibilities
- Provide input to the functional specifications.
- Working with all interested parties to design technical solutions to meet functional requirements defined by the business.
- Write software for the project and/or tools help in the testing of the software in the test phases of the project.
- Write software within agreed timescales.
- To write and deliver applications required by the business to agreed timescales and to the required standard.
- Ensure the continued maintenance and support of existing systems.
- Advise support teams of potential solutions to outstanding issues (3rd Line Support).
- Manage own workload, taking ownership of assigned support calls, ensuring everything is logged in accordance with IT policies.
- Understand and adhere to processes.
- Contribute to process development and recommend amendments.
- Follow approved procedures with regard to change control and documentation standards.
Skills / Experience
- Openedge V10 and upwards – Essential
- Ideally using V11 progress developer studio
- Pacific Application Server knowledge, API experience, SQL, GraphQL, .NET would be an advantage but not essential
