Responsibilities and Skills
To join the Development Programming team to enhance the expertise of our Technical Departments with a highly proficient level of Microsoft SQL Server knowledge (from 2000 through to 2016), complemented by adept programming ability in Visual Basic (.Net or VB6).
Day to Day Duties and Technical Skills Required:
Ideally candidates should be able to demonstrate experience of working on large scale enterprise software solutions. Databases measured in the size of > 100GB, tables > 600, tables with rows measured > 1,000,000. Experience of working with Views, Stored Procedures, writing (very) complex queries with multiple table joins, optimizing and improving performance of existing queries with a deep understanding of SQL optimizer and execution plans and indexing considerations. Concurrent users to the database in excess of 300, total connections in excess of 1000. Knowledge of SQL profiler, execution plans, performance and troubleshooting techniques, database health and maintenance plans and built in high availability options (e.g. log shipping and disaster recovery).
Adherence and contribution to documented processes, procedures and quality standards. Provide fault resolution to existing software, and develop new functionality using Visual Basic 6 and VB.Net. Provide application and technical support as required both internally and externally via telephone, electronically and via remote access. Logging and progressing fault calls may also be required.
The ideal candidate would be very strong in these areas with several yearsβ relevant and recent commercial experience. The candidate must be able to communicate with customers and colleagues effectively, be organised and self-motivated, and be a team player and be willing to take ownership of issues and problems and drive them through to a successful conclusion regardless of the problem area. Close customer contact is a necessary component of all technical roles in the company. Passion and a commitment to customer service and willingness to learn new and emerging technologies are key qualities.
Any VB Scripting (Macros) would also be extremely beneficial, but not essential. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is also desirable, including integration and automation.
The interview process may involve a brief aptitude test. Salary is negotiable (depending on experience) for the right candidate. There is an existing Bonus scheme and occasional overtime for working unsocial hours. There is a auto enrolment pension scheme that employees can join although they should take independent advice on what is best for them depending on their individual circumstances. Holidays are 20 days rising to 25 after three years and there is a non-contributory life assurance scheme in place (8x basic salary). Working hours are Monday to Thursday 8.45 to 17.30, Friday 8.45 to 17.00, 45 minutes for lunch each day, no fixed time, flexible to ensure the service desk is covered at all times.
