The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a Progress Developer for an established organisation with a strong in-house engineering function. The role sits within a structured delivery environment, working on enterprise-grade applications where quality, reliability and governance matter.

You’ll be hands-on with Progress OpenEdge 4GL / ABL, delivering new functionality and improving existing services. You’ll work closely with Testing and Change Management, producing well-engineered solutions to agreed timescales, while also contributing to continuous improvement across development standards and internal processes.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be involved across the full development lifecycle: analysis through build, unit testing, and controlled release.

  • Analyse requirements and design solutions for enterprise applications using Progress OpenEdge 4GL / ABL.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality code, including unit testing and peer review practices.
  • Collaborate closely with Testing and Change Management teams to ensure release readiness and smooth deployments.
  • Deliver to time and budget: planning work, estimating effort, and managing priorities across multiple initiatives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement: propose enhancements to internal processes, tooling, and coding conventions.
  • Adhere to (and help reinforce) development standards: naming conventions, code structure, reusable components, and consistent error handling.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve defects: log analysis, data investigation, and performance diagnosis.
