The Opportunity
We are hiring a Manufacturing IT Manager UK for a multi-site food manufacturing business supplying major retail and hospitality customers. This is a hands-on IT leadership role supporting a high-availability production environment where factory uptime, cyber security, and ERP reliability are critical. You’ll own day-to-day IT service delivery, lead site-based support, and manage a mixed estate across Microsoft 365, Windows infrastructure, networks, and manufacturing systems such as MES, SCADA, and OT connectivity. You’ll also drive improvement projects—standardisation, resilience, security uplift, and supplier performance.
What you’ll be doing
- You’ll take ownership of IT operations across production and office environments, balancing stability with continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Lead IT operations and service delivery: ITIL-aligned incident, problem, and change management, SLA performance, and operational reporting.
- Manage site infrastructure: Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, identity, endpoint management, patching and backup.
- Own connectivity and plant networking: LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, switching/routing, VLAN segmentation, and resilience across sites.
- Drive cyber security controls: MFA, Conditional Access, endpoint protection, vulnerability management, privileged access, and security awareness.
- Support and govern manufacturing technology: ERP ownership (support coordination, upgrades, access/roles), plus MES/SCADA/OT liaison and vendor management.
- Manage vendors and contracts: MSP/3rd line, telecoms, hardware/software suppliers, licensing, renewals and budget control.
- Deliver projects end-to-end: scoping, business cases, stakeholder management, cutover planning, go-live support and post-implementation review.
- Maintain documentation and audit readiness: asset register, network diagrams, runbooks, DR/BCP plans, and SOPs.
- Lead and develop the team: coaching, rota planning, performance management and knowledge-sharing culture.
Technology environment
This is a modern Microsoft estate with real-world factory constraints and uptime requirements.
- Core technologies: Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, Group Policy, file/print services, RDS (where used)
- Networking: firewalls, VPNs, switches, Wi-Fi, VLANs, site-to-site connectivity, SD-WAN (where used)
- Security: MFA, Conditional Access, endpoint hardening, patch compliance, backups, phishing controls, incident response basics
- Manufacturing/OT: MES, SCADA, shop-floor endpoints, barcode/label printers, OT network segmentation, PLC connectivity awareness
- ERP/Business systems: ERP, reporting, EDI/file transfers, integrations and operational dashboards
- Backup/DR: Veeam (or equivalent), restore testing, BCDR planning
- Monitoring: alerting, capacity planning, log visibility (e.g. Splunk/ELK concepts)
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience as a Manufacturing IT Manager UK (or closely related IT Operations Manager role in manufacturing)
- Strong background in IT infrastructure, networks, Microsoft 365, and operational support
- Practical experience improving cyber security posture (identity, endpoints, vulnerability management, access controls)
- Experience supporting ERP and collaborating with production/engineering teams on factory systems
- Vendor and budget management: SLAs, renewals, supplier performance and cost control
- Confident stakeholder management across production, engineering, finance and senior leadership
Highly desirable
- Experience working around OT/SCADA/MES environments and network segmentation
- Familiarity with audit/control environments (documentation, access governance, evidence trails)
- Delivery of infrastructure projects: M365 improvements, network refresh, backup/DR uplift, security programmes
- ITIL certification (or strong working knowledge of ITIL processes)
