The Patent Department at InterDigital seeks a European patent attorney to manage a portfolio of patent assets in wireless communications across multiple jurisdictions. The selected candidate will prosecute a global patent portfolio, support the company’s licensing strategy, and build high‑value licensing assets.

Responsibilities

  • Prosecuting a global patent portfolio across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Collaborating with inventors, technical experts, patent portfolio management, licensing, and litigation teams.
  • Preparing and filing patent applications, including EP or US national first filings, PCT applications, continuations, divisional, and reissue patent applications.
  • Strategically developing and managing patent families to provide value to InterDigital’s corporate licensing programs.
  • Mapping claims to standards and products in line with InterDigital’s standard‑ and product‑oriented licensing strategy.
  • Assisting in post‑grant reviews of InterDigital’s patent portfolio, supporting licensing and litigation teams in assertion efforts, evaluating patent assets for potential acquisitions, and preparing Standards Settings Organization (SSO) patent declarations.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years post‑qualification experience as a European Patent Attorney.
  • Significant experience preparing and prosecuting EP and foreign patent applications in video technologies or wireless communications through a reputable law firm or in‑house role; proficient in all aspects of EP patent prosecution.
  • Strong technical background in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a closely related field relevant to InterDigital’s business.
  • Experience in wireless communication; working knowledge of wireless standards such as 3GPP and IEEE 802.11, and/or experience in standards‑based prosecution.
  • Previous experience working with foreign counsels.
  • Post‑grant experience, including EP oppositions and patent litigation, is a plus.
  • Experience managing patent prosecution for a large telecommunications company is a plus.
  • English fluency mandatory.
  • Aptitude for learning new and complex technology.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaborate with a broader team.
  • Strong communication skills and a global mindset.
