The Storage Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of storage engineers that support enterprise storage arrays & SAN switches in high-performance production as well as non-production environments. This individual works as part of a results-oriented service delivery team that collaborates with other engineering and operations teams. He/she will be responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the team, managing escalations, and handling real-time issues as they arise. Additionally, the Storage Engineering Manager is expected to be hands-on in all team activities such as performing root cause analysis, identifying areas for improvement, remediation of issues, and execution of tasks to complete project-based deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Oversee Storage Engineering team
- Provide support for all storage related issues
- Respond to and assist in production operations in a 24/7 environment
- Provide support to and coordinate with engineering & operations staff
- Educate and mentor team members and operations staff
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support
- Provide technical analysis, resolve problems, and propose solutions
- Participate as a resource for project driven initiatives
- Identify opportunities for automation of manual tasks
- Investigate and adopt new technologies/tools as needs arise
- Evaluate, test, and integrate new operating system versions, drivers, and patches
- Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to provide examples of how the responsibilities are performed and measured
- Prioritize the most important and frequent responsibilities, and group them into categories if needed
Knowledge and Experience
- Senior level experience with a variety of disk storage subsystems and SAN switches including EMC, Hitachi, NetApp, Brocade, and Cisco
- Experience leading a team of engineers
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Experience in creating runbooks and documentation
- Top-tier critical thinking and problem-solving skills
