Role Overview
The HR Advisor is the first point of contact for People Managers, offering advice, guidance and coaching on employee relations queries and ongoing cases across the Operations team. Working closely with the relevant HR Business Partner, the Advisor ensures that all advice and decisions comply with employment legislation, HR policies and internal processes, minimising business risk and safeguarding colleague treatment in line with our values.
The role also supports the wider HRBP team on ER cases firm‑wide, broader people‑focused initiatives, and reporting as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide proactive advice, support and challenge to line managers regarding employee relations cases.
- Ensure employee issues are handled fairly and consistently, in compliance with legislation, HR best practice and our policies.
- Mitigate and minimise risk to the business through proactive risk management of employee relations cases.
- Maintain the ER case tracker and produce monthly ER MI.
- Provide analysis of employee relations themes, issues and areas of concern, proposing options and solutions to support business needs.
- Support organisational design projects, including redundancy, TUPE and M&A activity.
- Contribute to HR policy development and review, ensuring alignment with current legislation and best practice.
- Assist with recruitment when required.
- Build and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders to provide high‑standard advice and support.
- Identify skill gaps in people management to deliver appropriate coaching and training interventions.
- Work with the training team to deliver HR‑focused training as needed.
- Maintain the first line of risk and compliance defence, ensuring adherence to business processes that meet regulatory standards and FCA guidance.
- Make informed risk decisions and challenge management recommendations within the approved Risk Management Framework.
- Support review and control of departmental risks and controls.
Requirements
- Requirement for a CIPD qualification or equivalent, or willingness to work towards it.
- Solid understanding of employment law and practice.
- Proven ability to provide accurate advice on a wide range of employment law matters.
- Ability to formulate a range of ER solutions, presenting pros and cons and recommending a risk‑based option in line with the company\’s appetite.
- Awareness of business objectives, products and processes.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills – able to negotiate and influence up to senior management level.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise and organise work to meet deadlines, managing multiple cases and competing demands.
- Calm under pressure and resilient when handling difficult situations or conversations.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
