Job Opportunity: Multi-Skilled Engineer (Mechanical/Electrical Bias)
Location: Sedgefield, County Durham
Salary: Starting from £41,714, rising to £45,034 (subject to skills and experience)
Shifts: 24/7 rotating shift pattern (3 on – 3 off, days and nights, 7am-7pm / 7pm-7am)
About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Multi-Skilled Engineer to join a busy, well-established manufacturing business producing plastic packaging for the food industry. This role plays a key part in supporting production through effective maintenance, fault finding, and continuous improvement initiatives.
We are seeking a flexible, driven individual with strong engineering experience gained within a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and attend breakdowns as required.

Diagnose and repair faults quickly to minimise production downtime.

Accurately record all work completed, reporting any follow-up actions required.

Support continuous improvement activities and machine performance enhancements.

Ensure compliance with health and safety, food safety, and hygiene standards at all times.

Supervise contractors and ensure adherence to site rules and safety protocols.

Provide training and support to other team members where necessary.

Work under KPI-driven targets to maximise operational performance and efficiency.

Key Requirements

Time-served engineer (Mechanical or Electrical bias) qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

Ideally educated to HNC level (or equivalent) – desirable but not essential.

Previous experience in a high-speed, high-volume manufacturing environment.

Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills under production pressures.

Experience with PLC control systems, fault finding on servo drives, RS networks (including Ethernet and DeviceNet).

Familiarity with AB Powerflex AC Inverters.

Working knowledge of TPM, 5S, and CMMS systems is an advantage.

18th Edition certification preferred for candidates with electrical bias.

Good IT literacy and comfortable using maintenance software.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
