Interaction Recruitment are partnering with a national rail industry specialist who delivers expert design, engineering, project management, construction and maintenance solutions, supporting them with their permanent recruitment. An exciting time to join the business, the client are looking for a Maintenance Technician to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis, to be based in Westbury, Wiltshire.
The purpose of this role:
- To maintain the client's owned and leased assets to ensure the maximum availability and reliability is achieved.
- Ensure that the equipment is maintained in accordance with relevant standards, procedures & legislation.
- To deliver the required work in a safe and effective manner, conforming to contract specification and to provide the first level response to any locomotive and wagon failures, ensuring a high level of cleanliness, reliability and performance is achieved.
Key Role Accountabilities:
- To facilitate the work detailed by the Team Leader / Supervisor and serve as a front-line fitter.
- To deliver all aspects of their Rail locomotives and Wagons to a successful completion of work under the guidance of the Supervisor and Team Leader.
- To ensure that all work undertaken is recorded and logged on the exam sheets.
- As required reporting direct to the Team Leader of regular updates of Work in Progress to ensure that the Senior management are aware of any operational issues and performance.
- To ensure that appropriate PPE is always worn.
- Liaise with Management team / Control on serious incidents such as accidents, safety issues and fatalities.
- Liaise with Management team on Environmental Agency and “Clean up” contractors of Environmental incidents.
- Liaise with Management team on for cause drug screening requests.
- Ensure all necessary paperwork and administrative duties are fulfilled.
- Complete, upload documentation to database and process through to the Engineering team.
- To help team members perform their varied duties competently and fully on locomotives and wagons.
- Remain aware of both personal limitations and professional boundaries and when to refer colleagues to more senior management.
- Must be focused on development of staff to always improve skill level.
- From time to time be prepared to lodge away from home for a limited period to efficiently carry out maintenance duties on locomotives and wagons.
- Be in possession of a full UK road vehicle driving licence, which must be presented for inspection by the company annually or as and when required.
- When driving company vehicles, do so within the bounds of the Highway Code and any appropriate company instructions or procedures.
- Participate in the taking of samples for analysis and any works arising from these as part of the Condition Based Monitoring scheme.
- Comply with all company procedures regarding issuing equipment from Depot based stores holdings.
- Ensure all working at height, lifting equipment and calibrated tooling is in date and fit for purpose.
- Participate fully and proactively in the company competency assessment programme.
- Undertake any other duties if assessed as competent to do so.
SHEQ Responsibilities:
- Work to applicable Safety Plans and Method Statements.
- Comply with Section 7 of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
Competencies required for the role:
- Recognised formal apprenticeship in Mechanical / Electrical engineering.
- To have achieved the core competencies of Class 37/97, Class 43, Class 56, Class 66, Class 67, and Class 70 locomotives.
- Wagon maintenance.
- Driving Licence.
- PTS DP.
- Working from Heights.
- Confined spaces.
- Manual handling.
- Fire Training.
- Emergency First Aid.
- Depot /Yard Inductions.
- Excellent IT skills with working knowledge of Word, Excel & Microsoft Teams.
- Ability to understand technical drawings and maintenance schedules.
