Interaction Recruitment are currently recruiting on behalf of our client, a successful and growing business within the recycling and materials sector, for an experienced Commercial Buyer to join their team based in March. Our client is a leading specialist within their industry, providing sustainable and environmentally responsible solutions through the recycling and processing of materials. Due to continued growth, they are looking for a commercially focused Buyer to support their procurement strategy and strengthen supplier relationships.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Buyer who enjoys working in a fast-paced commercial environment, negotiating with suppliers, identifying opportunities, and contributing to business growth.

The Role

As Commercial Buyer, you will play a key role in managing supplier relationships, sourcing materials, negotiating pricing, and ensuring the business continues to secure quality products and services at competitive rates. You will be responsible for developing new opportunities, monitoring market conditions, and working closely with internal teams to support operational efficiency and commercial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective suppliers.
  • Source and purchase materials at commercially competitive rates.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and supply agreements.
  • Identify and secure new supplier opportunities.
  • Conduct supplier visits where required to assess quality, capability, and operational requirements.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and competitor activity.
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure effective supply chain management.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier information.
  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing performance and add commercial value.
  • Support the wider business growth strategy.

About You

We are looking for a commercially driven Buyer with experience managing supplier relationships and negotiating purchasing agreements. You will be confident working autonomously, have strong commercial awareness, and enjoy building long-term partnerships with suppliers. Experience within the scrap metal, recycling, waste management, commodities, manufacturing, or materials sectors would be highly advantageous, although candidates with strong purchasing experience from other industries will also be considered.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience within a Buyer, Commercial Buyer, Procurement, or Purchasing role.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to identify cost-saving and value-adding opportunities.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and contracts.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel across East Anglia and the East Midlands.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within scrap metal recycling, waste management, commodities, manufacturing, or similar industries.
  • Understanding of material pricing, market fluctuations, and supply chain processes.
  • Existing network of industry contacts.
