Interaction Recruitment are partnering with a national rail industry specialist who delivers expert design, engineering, project management, construction and maintenance solutions, supporting them with their permanent recruitment. An exciting time to join the business, the client is looking for a Maintenance Technician to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis, to be based in Westbury, Wiltshire.

Overview

The purpose of this role is to maintain the client's owned and leased assets to ensure maximum availability and reliability, in accordance with relevant standards, procedures and legislation. The role requires safe and effective delivery, conforming to contract specifications, providing first-line response to locomotive and wagon failures, and maintaining high levels of cleanliness, reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain locomotives and wagons, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently under Supervisor and Team Leader guidance.
  • Record and log all work on examination sheets.
  • Provide regular updates of work in progress to the Senior Management.
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is worn at all times.
  • Report serious incidents (accidents, safety issues, environmental incidents, drug screening requests) to Management and keep them regularly updated.
  • Complete, upload, and process documentation into the database and forward to the Engineering team.
  • Assist team members in performing duties on locomotives and wagons.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations including working at height, lifting equipment and calibrated tooling.
  • Participate in the company competency assessment programme and Condition Based Monitoring scheme.
  • Support lit posting, travel as required for maintenance duties.
  • Maintain compliance with company procedures for equipment issuance and possession of a valid UK driving licence.
  • Undertake any other duties considered competent.

Key Role Accountabilities

  • Serve as a front-line fitter.
  • Deliver all aspects of railway locomotives and wagons to successful completion.
  • Ensure all work undertaken is recorded and logged on exam sheets.
  • From time to time be prepared to lodge away from home for limited periods to efficiently carry out maintenance duties.
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork and administrative duties are fulfilled.
  • Ensure all PPE is always worn.
  • Remain aware of personal limitations and professional boundaries, referring colleagues to senior management when appropriate.
  • Focus on development of staff to always improve skill level.
  • Being in possession of a full UK road vehicle driving licence, presenting it for inspection by the company annually or as required.
  • When driving company vehicles, comply with the Highway Code and company instructions.
  • Comply with all company procedures regarding issuing equipment from Depot based store holdings.
  • Ensure working at height, lifting equipment and calibrated tooling are in date and fit for purpose.
  • Participate fully and proactively in the company competency assessment programme.
  • Undertake any other duties if assessed as competent to do so.

SHEQ Responsibilities

  • Work in accordance with applicable Safety Plans and Method Statements.
  • Comply with Section 7 of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

Competencies Required

  • Recognised formal apprenticeship in Mechanical / Electrical engineering.
  • Core competencies of Class 37/97, Class 43, Class 56, Class 66, Class 67, and Class 70 locomotives.
  • Experience in wagon maintenance.
  • Valid driving licence.
  • PTS (Permit to Work System).
  • DP (Dependant Pass).
  • Working from Heights.
  • Confined spaces.
  • Manual handling.
  • Fire Training.
  • Emergency First Aid.
  • Depot / Yard Inductions.
  • Excellent IT skills with working knowledge of Word, Excel and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and maintenance schedules.
