We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Fitter to join our busy team in Taunton. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and assembling a wide range of special-purpose machinery in line with engineering drawings and quality standards. This role requires strong mechanical knowledge, hands-on assembly experience and confidence using a variety of hand and power tools. The Mechanical Fitter will play a key role in ensuring all products meet stringent quality and performance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble mechanical components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
  • Build small sub-assemblies through to larger mechanical sections
  • Fit bearings, taper-lock pulleys, gears and associated components
  • Install and run pneumatic and hydraulic pipework
  • Carry out quality checks to ensure all work meets required standards
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to optimise build processes and resolve assembly issues

Skills & Qualifications

  • Fully time-served Mechanical Fitter/Engineer
  • Mechanical engineering qualification (essential)
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools and power tools
  • Experience using machine tools (advantageous)
  • Strong mechanical understanding with the ability to interpret technical drawings
  • Experience working with pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Fabrication experience (advantageous)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to set a positive example and support team members
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
