Interaction Recruitment is working with a leading technical testing and research organisation to recruit a Technician - Safety Product Testing to join its established Safety Product Testing team in Kettering.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will join a team responsible for testing a wide range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for customers across the UK and internationally.

The department operates accredited laboratories with specialist testing equipment, assessing PPE against International and European standards to ensure products meet required levels of protection.

Products tested include:

• Gloves and hand protection
• Fall protection equipment
• Motorcycle garments
• High-visibility clothing
• Safety eyewear
• Helmets
• Hearing protection
• Chainsaw garments
• Kneepads
• Sports protection
• A wide range of other PPE products

This is a practical and varied opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, working with equipment and following detailed testing procedures. Full training will be provided where required.

Key Responsibilities

The Technician will be responsible for:

• Carrying out routine physical testing of PPE in accordance with International and European standards
• Operating specialist test equipment and machinery
• Accurately recording test results on paperwork and electronic systems
• Preparing samples prior to testing
• Maintaining a clean, tidy and organised laboratory environment
• Managing and maintaining sample storage areas
• Supporting Technologists when customers visit the laboratory
• Working both independently and as part of a wider technical team
• Ensuring testing is completed accurately and in line with required procedures

About the Successful Candidate

The role would suit someone who is reliable, methodical and hands-on, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to remain focused when carrying out routine or repetitive testing.

Applicants should have:

• GCSE Grade C or above in Maths, English and Science
• Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and a thorough approach to work
• Good time management and organisational skills
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team
• A reliable and positive approach to work
• Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and develop

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

• Previous laboratory experience
• Experience working with PPE
• Experience using Excel and Outlook
• Knowledge of quality systems
• Previous experience working to recognised testing standards
