Our client is currently recruiting for an experienced
HGV & Plant Engineer
to join their team based in Stevenage. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer with a strong background in HGV maintenance, plant equipment and mechanical repairs. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, inspecting, repairing and testing a range of HGV vehicles, plant and associated equipment. The role will involve a combination of workshop-based maintenance and attending breakdowns or accident-damaged vehicles when required. Key Responsibilities
Maintain, inspect, repair and test the company's HGV vehicles, plant and associated equipment. Prepare, present and accompany HGV vehicles, where required, for annual MOT inspections. Carry out periodic safety inspections on HGV vehicles in line with relevant VOSA inspection standards. Diagnose and repair complex hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems. Carry out welding, fabrication and body repairs as required. Attend vehicle breakdowns and accident-damaged vehicles and carry out permanent or running repairs where necessary. Prepare and decommission vehicles, including the fitting and removal of ancillary equipment, accessories and vehicle livery. Complete all relevant paperwork and ensure that required statistics and legal information are accurately recorded. Keep the workshop computer system and maintenance records updated as required. Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with relevant legislation, company procedures and Health & Safety requirements. Maintain work areas in a clean, safe and organised condition. Attend training courses linked to personal development and service requirements. Carry out any other reasonable duties as instructed by the Company Director. The successful candidate will ideally have: Previous experience working as an
HGV Engineer, HGV Technician, Plant Engineer or in a similar role . Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding experience. Experience diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems. Experience preparing HGVs for MOT inspections and carrying out safety inspections. Welding, fabrication and body repair experience. The ability to diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs. A good understanding of relevant vehicle legislation and Health & Safety requirements. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance. Good communication and organisational skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
