Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Steel Estimator to join their team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for structural and architectural steelwork projects.

Working closely with clients, suppliers, and internal project teams, the Steel Estimator will ensure quotations are completed accurately, on time, and in line with project requirements.

The role will also involve occasional nationwide travel to attend client meetings, site visits, and project surveys where required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review tender documents, engineering drawings, and project specifications.
  • Produce accurate material take-offs for structural and architectural steelwork.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, quotations, and tender submissions.
  • Calculate material, labour, fabrication, transport, and installation costs.
  • Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and project managers to clarify project requirements.
  • Attend client meetings and carry out site visits and surveys across the UK when required.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, material pricing, and supplier information.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities to improve project profitability.
  • Assist with project handovers to the operations and production teams following successful tenders.
  • Monitor market trends and material costs to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Ensure all estimates comply with company standards and client specifications.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience as a Steel Estimator or in a similar estimating role within the steel fabrication industry.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and construction processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with estimating software is advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tenders within deadlines.
