We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a reliable Laboratory Cleaner to join a busy horticulture research facility on a temporary basis, with the potential to become permanent. This role is essential in maintaining exceptional cleanliness and hygiene standards to support scientific work and prevent contamination or spread of plant material.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily cleaning, tidying, and vacuuming of service areas, corridors, potting, and preparation spaces
- Emptying bins, waste segregation, and use of autoclaves for waste inactivation
- Disinfecting hard surfaces using appropriate cleaning agents
- Sterilising reusable equipment in line with established protocols
- Maintaining high housekeeping standards to prevent plant disease and contamination
- Weekly cleaning of autoclaves
- Cleaning within plant-growing environments while working around active experiments
- Maintaining and caring for cleaning equipment
- Replacing drain filters monthly and maintaining filter housing
- Replacing containment sticky mats as required
- Conducting periodic deep cleaning of growth chambers and glasshouses, including use of pressure washers
- Supporting stock control by collecting supplies and notifying the Facility Manager when reordering is required
- Using Microsoft Teams and Outlook to manage and confirm tasks
- Adhering to Safe Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments at all times
- Following waste management and containment protocols for laboratory environments (Levels 1 and 2)
- Safely disposing of chemical and biological waste
- Assisting with emergency situations, including spill response
- Reporting issues promptly to the Facility Manager
Candidate Requirements:
- Previous cleaning experience within a scientific or laboratory environment is essential
- GCSE Science (grades A–C) or Level 2 Science NVQ (or equivalent)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict procedures
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
