About The Role
The VP, AI Operations is a transformative executive leader responsible for architecting, implementing, and continuously refining the intelligent coordination layer that enables seamless collaboration between human teams and AI agents across the enterprise. In an AI‑Native organisation, orchestration is the difference between coherence and chaos—between a collection of siloed capabilities and a synchronised, adaptive, high‑velocity organisation.
This role ensures that AI amplifies human potential rather than simply automating tasks. By designing the systems, governance, and workflows that connect people, agents, and platforms into a holistic execution fabric, the VP of Orchestration shapes how work actually gets done. This executive sits at the intersection of technology strategy, operational excellence, and organisational design, unlocking the full force‑multiplier effect of human‑AI collaboration and enabling levels of organisational velocity impossible in traditional structures.
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Orchestration Design: Architect and evolve the company’s orchestration framework, defining how work flows between humans, AI agents, and hybrid teams across all value streams.
- Create governance models balancing autonomy and alignment to drive coordinated execution and rapid adaptation.
- Establish principles, patterns, and protocols for human‑AI collaboration at enterprise scale.
- Map interdependencies across pods, functions, and value streams to identify optimisation opportunities and remove coordination bottlenecks.
- AI Agent Ecosystem Management: Oversee the entire portfolio of AI agents, ensuring optimal design, deployment, tuning, and retirement.
- Define standards for agent capabilities, interfaces, handoff rules, and escalation pathways.
- Build mechanisms for agents to learn from expert human behaviour and continuously self‑improve.
- Monitor agent effectiveness, utilisation, cost/ROI, and emergent behaviours to drive ongoing optimisation.
- Workflow & Integration Architecture: Design the operational and technical infrastructure enabling seamless handoffs between human and AI work.
- Create robust feedback loops that surface learnings from both successes and workflow failures.
- Set integration standards for tools, platforms, and data flows supporting orchestrated execution.
- Provide transparency into work progress, blockers, dependencies, and resource allocation.
- Cross‑Functional Coordination: Partner with pod leads and functional leaders to optimise workflows within and across organisational boundaries.
- Resolve coordination challenges and workflow conflicts.
- Champion initiatives that reduce friction and increase organisational velocity.
- Drive adoption of orchestration best practices across all business units.
- Performance & Continuous Improvement: Define and track KPIs for orchestration success, including cycle times, handoff quality, throughput, utilisation, and outcomes.
- Conduct regular audits to identify inefficiencies, systemic issues, and improvement opportunities.
- Lead post‑mortems on workflow breakdowns to extract cross‑organisational learnings.
- Build organisational capability in adaptive orchestration through training, tooling, and enablement.
- Change Leadership: Guide the company through the cultural transformation required for effective human‑AI collaboration.
- Equip teams to operate effectively within orchestrated workflows.
- Manage resistance and build shared understanding of how orchestration enhances—not constrains—work.
- Communicate wins, celebrate progress, and drive organisational learning.
- AI Governance & Ethical Decision‑Making: Ensure AI‑driven decisions align with company values and governance principles.
- Oversee bias detection, monitoring, and correction systems.
- Partner with legal, compliance, and security teams to maintain responsible AI operations.
