An early-stage industrial technology company is seeking a Chief Revenue Officer to lead the commercial launch and global scaling of a new digital transaction platform for the physical materials and commodities sector. The platform gives commodity producers, traders and industrial buyers a faster, more efficient way to transact — helping them unlock new commercial opportunities, reduce costs and improve supply-chain efficiency.

The core technology is already built. The next phase is to establish the commercial model, secure the first platform participants and build an international revenue organisation from the ground up — a rare opportunity to shape the go-to-market strategy of a category-defining platform and own the commercial engine behind it.

The role

Reporting to the CEO and joining the executive leadership team alongside the CTO, the Chief Revenue Officer will take ownership of the company's global commercial strategy. Initially, the successful candidate will be directly involved in sales - building relationships with producers, traders and industrial buyers, attracting companies to the platform and generating the first revenues. As the business develops, the CRO will build and lead an international commercial organisation across sales, marketing and customer success. The individual will have significant influence over the company's go-to-market strategy, target sectors, geographical expansion and wider growth plans.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the global commercial and go-to-market strategy
  • Personally secure early platform participants across producers, traders and industrial buyers
  • Build relationships with senior commercial leaders and physical commodity traders
  • Develop both sides of the platform and create sufficient participation to support transaction activity
  • Establish the sales proposition, commercial model, revenue targets and performance metrics
  • Identify the most attractive initial sectors, trade corridors and geographical markets
  • Build and lead a high-performing international sales and customer-success team
  • Recruit commercial talent across Europe and potentially North America and Asia
  • Develop strategic partnerships with trading houses, producers, brokers and other industry participants
  • Represent the business at major chemicals, energy, metals, mining and commodity-trading conferences
  • Work closely with the CEO, CTO, founders and future board advisers on the company's wider growth strategy
  • Provide commercial insight to support future fundraising and investor discussions

Candidate profile

We are open to candidates from several relevant backgrounds, including:

  • High-performing traders or commercial leaders from major commodity trading houses, with the ambition and leadership ability to build a commercial team and scale a technology-led business.
  • Commercial leaders from commodity technology, industrial software or digital marketplace businesses, ideally with experience selling into chemicals, energy, metals, mining, raw materials or industrial supply chains.
  • Previous sales leadership experience is not essential, but candidates must have the commercial drive, industry credibility and leadership potential to build the revenue function from the ground up.

The successful candidate will ideally bring:

  • Proven experience developing revenue within complex industrial or commodity markets
  • Strong relationships with producers, traders, industrial buyers or other physical-market participants
  • The credibility to communicate with experienced commodity traders in their own commercial language
  • Experience building or scaling a sales team in an entrepreneurial environment
  • A demonstrable record of personally winning strategic customers or platform participants
  • The ability to combine commercial execution with market analysis and go-to-market strategy
  • Experience establishing sales processes, incentives, pipeline management and revenue forecasting
  • A highly entrepreneurial and results-oriented approach
  • The willingness to travel regularly to meet customers and attend industry events
  • The appetite to join an early-stage company where the commercial strategy is still being shaped

Location and working model

The role can be based flexibly within Europe, with the UK, Germany, The Netherlands and Switzerland of particular interest. The company expects to operate a flexible working model, while bringing the leadership and commercial team together regularly to build a strong company culture. International travel will be an important part of the position. The CRO will have significant influence over where the company builds its commercial team and establishes its future international presence.

Reward

The role will offer:

  • A highly competitive six-figure base salary
  • A substantial and uncapped revenue-linked incentive structure
  • Significant influence over the company's strategy and international expansion
  • The opportunity to build the commercial function and team from the ground up
  • A position within the founding executive leadership team
