If you've built a solid foundation in manufacturing or automation and you're starting to feel like you want more variety, more influence, and more ownership this could be a really interesting next step.
This role isn't about sitting within one factory or repeating the same type of project. It's about working across a group of businesses, helping them figure out how to improve, automate and modernise the way they operate.
You'll still be hands-on, but you'll also have a voice in what gets done and how.
What the role looks like day to day:You'll be working with different operating companies, getting under the skin of how they run and spotting where automation or Industry 4.0 solutions can make a real difference. Sometimes that might be helping a site explore MES or SCADA properly for the first time. Other times it could be running a pilot around IoT, robotics or data capture. You'll take ideas from early concept through to proof of value, and then help teams take ownership and scale what works. It's a mix of problem solving, stakeholder engagement and practical delivery.
What they're looking for:This would suit someone who:
- Has a few years experience in manufacturing, automation or industrial systems
- Has worked with things like PLCs, MES, SCADA, IIoT or similar
- Understands how factories actually run, not just the theory
- Enjoys solving problems and figuring things out from first principles
- Is starting to want more ownership or a more consultative role
You don't need to have done a formal consulting role before, but you do need to be comfortable working with different people and environments.
Why this role stands out:The biggest thing people tend to enjoy here is the variety and the level of trust. You're not just delivering someone else's plan you're helping shape it. You'll get exposure to a wide range of technologies, different types of manufacturing environments, and senior stakeholders across multiple businesses. There's also a clear path into more senior or architectural roles over time if that's where you want to go.
Package:- £60,000 - £70,000 salary
- Bonus up to 15%
- Share incentive plan
- Pension up to 10.5% employer contribution
- Private medical cover
- Life assurance and income protection
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
If you're at the point where you want to step beyond a purely technical role and start having more impact, this is well worth a conversation.
