Working for a large global eCommerce business, we need a WordPress Designer / UI Designer / UX Designer who can also do some coding in WordPress, using off the shelf capabilities and plugins (using Astra). The project involves making design and UX improvements to an affiliates site to drive SEO and conversion performance, using work from a recent UX audit and evaluation project from an external SEO agency. This is a 3 month OUTSIDE IR35 contract and is UK remote, with occasional central London meetings.
The WordPress Designer / UI Designer / UX Designer will:
- Make UI improvements (web and mobile) within current WordPress constraints, producing high‑fidelity designs and clear handoff for implementation. There will be no custom development, you’ll use off‑the‑shelf capabilities/plugins.
- Review current site, traffic patterns, and SEO recommendations; confirm template inventory & component list.
- Review UX audit carried out by internal UX Researcher and UX change recommendations.
- Agree success metrics and measurement points; confirm WordPress theme, plugin constraints, and block/template limitations.
- Present initial concept + component approach, mapped to WordPress block and template structure.
- Two structured review cycles with stakeholders & SEO agency.
- Final hi‑fi screens for all in‑scope templates (3 breakpoints), with annotated specs for WordPress build.
- Build approved designs within WordPress, applying updates to theme templates, custom blocks, and global styles.
- Implement responsive behaviour across 3 breakpoints; QA across browsers and devices.
- SEO agency review of implemented templates to confirm technical SEO requirements are met.
- Stakeholder review and consolidation of amends.
Candidates for the WordPress Designer / UI Designer / UX Designer role must have:
- Strong WordPress design experience, ideally for high-traffic sites.
- Strong appreciation of UX and design thinking and principles.
- Ability to deliver some low-code work and changes (not custom development or back end functionality).
- Strong communication skills to work with and present work to senior stakeholders and external partners.
