Company Intelligent Data & Tape Solutions Ltd (IDATS) specialise in the access and management of legacy data, particularly stored on tape. They have created a portfolio of products and services that access, liberate, migrate, and delete data without using the original systems or infrastructure used to create it. This allows clients to gain an understanding of their legacy data estate and make informed management decisions on the future of that data; to retain it, delete it, or move/migrate it to another platform.
Significant growth has created an opening for an additional consultant to lead the acquisition and implementation of projects across the IDATS’ corporate client base.
Role Overview
As a Senior Storage & Legacy Data Consultant, you will act as the bridge between complex challenges posed by the legacy data estate and IDATS’ innovative, unique, and patented technical solutions. This is a high-impact, customer-facing role where you will consult with global organisations to understand their data landscapes, design strategic migration paths, and lead the successful implementation of those solutions. You aren’t just a technician; you are a strategic advisor who understands how data is stored and used and the importance of applying the correct retention policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Discovery & Strategy: Conduct deep-dive consultations with customers to audit their current storage environments, backup protocols, legacy tapes & data estates.
- Solution Design: Architect bespoke data migration and restoration strategies that account for various data types (structured/unstructured), formats, and compliance requirements.
- Implementation Oversight: Lead the end-to-end delivery of projects, managing the technical execution of data migrations and restores, while ensuring minimal downtime for the client.
- Stakeholder Management: Translate complex technical requirements into business outcomes for C-suite executives and IT directors.
- Global Mobility: Travel to client sites worldwide to provide on-the-ground expertise, oversee high-stakes implementations, and build long-term relationships.
Technical Requirements
- Storage Systems: In-depth knowledge of SAN, NAS, Object Storage, and Cloud storage tiers (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Backup & Recovery: Good knowledge of enterprise backup software (e.g., Veeam, TSM, Commvault, Veritas).
- Tape Systems: Strong knowledge of tape technologies and their use.
- Data Literacy: Expert understanding of data formats, database structures, and the nuances of legacy “dark data.”
- Migration Expertise: Hands-on experience with large-scale data movement, protocol conversion, and integrity verification.
- Legacy Systems: Familiarity with tape libraries, mainframe storage, or aging hardware environments that require specialised restoration workflows.
Professional Requirements
- Consultative Approach: Proven ability to ask the right questions to uncover hidden business needs and data dependencies.
- Global Mindset: Ability and willingness to travel internationally and work across diverse cultures and time zones.
- Communication: Exceptional presentation skills, with the ability to explain the “why” behind technical decisions.
Why This Role?
This position offers the opportunity to solve the most difficult “data puzzles” in the industry. You will work with a diverse portfolio of clients, from global financial institutions through government agencies to bio and pharma, ensuring their most valuable assets—their data—is preserved, accessible, and optimised for the future.
